Take Advantage of the Free Stuff!

Looking for Free Stuff!

Invest in Yourself - It's never too late!

There is so much available online now for free that I have no time to do it all.  So far this year I've signed up for the Tapping Solution, listened to several webinars, Deepak Chopra and Oprah's 21 day meditations is on now, Recovery 2.0 will be starting right away and I have lots of things saved for later.  I can't imagine what all is out there as we will all be getting different things depending on our interests and connections.

For me there's been great stories shared, and lots of information to learn.
Now, if I could only remember it all!

Online searching, resources, courses and webinars etc is our future. In a few short years it has exploded. Now thousands/millions around the world can all listen to the same lectures and interviews. Hundreds/thousands from around the world can all be in the same course and support each other through online groups and shared comments.

I'm finally using Pinterest, and have been getting lots of great info from Twitter.  Signing up for newsletters is great and I'm finding out how if you follow people you need to learn from you'll soon have too much all at once, so I have several files to move things into.  I do the first old mind download of the info and then hope that I can find it again another day.

When I was working we had the help desk, now Google is the help desk and YouTube is the gal or the guy!

Free stuff isn't just online.  The other day (April 25, 2014) I was sitting up in my room taking a break and looking out the window when I noticed the extra large billowing clouds were very slowly changing to show new shapes or tell a story. A while later we got a special surprise! Our new puppy that we'll be getting in another month visited for quite a while.  First she was lying down with her ears not upright yet and then later she was up on her hind feet letting us know she was here and wanted to be seen. (well OK she was really telling us that soon we would have a new boss in the house). That was better than a movie!

And now that spring is here and some of our trees are in bloom, I have visions of cherries and pears in my head. I also started taking more pictures this last year, and I love how you can go out exploring, take a few pictures and it's free to put on the computer, send to someone or just admire. What a wonderful way to spend an afternoon and bring more awareness and presence into your day!

What's the free stuff that you enjoy?

Clear the Fog

Dona Anderson

Clear the Fog - We’ve all been there!

I think I was a pro at existing in the fog ...

The relaxation titled Clear the Fog on page 89 understands and says, “The fog can take us from the present moment into a mist, a feeling of wandering through our day without paying attention … without participating … allowing scattered thoughts to fill and cloud our mind”

How many times does this happen to you and how do you move out of it?

This guided relaxation starts to speak to you about everyday life and then shifts to your body, slowly releasing stress, resting, and breathing. How normal, yet how unique in this world of busyness!

Get your copy of Simply, One Breath At a Time here and allow your whole body to completely relax with this guided relaxation and many others.  E-book is also available in other formats at online booksellers.

Guided Relaxation CD also available here

How to win against stress!

How to win against stress!

Who's winning stress or you?

Roots to Breath, Dona Anderson

It was an invitation out for supper on Sunday that made me realize this is the long weekend for Easter.  I knew it was coming but never checked the calendar to know whether it was this weekend or the next one.  Now that we're retired with fun jobs and no children around we forget about many of the holidays. Over the years the quiet observances of holidays seemed to change to travelling to visit family, doing house repairs, yard work or other projects on the big to do list.  No time to rest -  always things to do.

I'm even reminded about how tired I was back then, all my aches and pains, and the times while waiting for my TV show to come on I fell asleep sitting on the couch and woke up when it was over. I have to tell you about one time we went to an organ concert and I fell asleep for the whole second part ... can you imagine a few rows away from a pipe organ and me sleeping - how embarrassing!

When I started yoga through a lunch time work program I was always asking if we could do the relaxation part to start.  I was joking but not really ... I was wanting to just lay down and have some quiet time to let my body rest and restore. After the first few times to feel the breath, soften and open up I was hooked. I looked forward to each time so I could feel better even if it was only for a few minutes. Then strange things started to happen ... not all at once and it took time for me to even notice them.  I started sitting up straighter, I started staying awake on the bus ride home and quit being a slumped over old lady drooling.  I started noticing I had a breath, a body and a mind that I could work with, that I could talk to and change.  I started to listen, to become aware and present!

Dona Anderson
I believe that once we see this tiny glimmer of light there is hope and we start to want more.  We start to change and want to know what else is possible. I kept on and quit some things that I thought were good for me but weren't.  I paid more attention to things that bothered me and made changes. I made space around me to breathe, and although to do lists can also be stressful, I used mine to not give me stress by just having one or two things on it that I needed to do and could handle at a time. I know some people hate the word routine, but for me the regular routine back then was what held it all together.

So why am I telling you all this? I guess I'm thinking about my readers and hoping that you find your stress relievers, your guide, your soft resting place that helps you be you so you can share with us your success story.  I am thankful for all the wonderful changes in my life.  My new passions allow me to talk to you, and to share my love of writing out into the world. I found out that when it's time for the cocoon to open the butterfly emerges.

Standing tall in your Mountain

Standing tall in your Mountain

 Dona Anderson

In case you missed this ending in my earlier post, Pages for you just to be you, I wanted to pull this part out and share  it with you.  I hope you will love it as much as I do and bring all its confidence, strength and compassion to your yoga class or group, or forward and share it with your friends.

Dona Anderson
I am always sharing stories about how yoga started so much positive change in my life.  It opened me up to awareness, new passions, excitement, gratitude, change and wellness to my body, mind, and soul.  I remember my forties being the worst time of my life.  I used to hurt everywhere and I remember how much life I lost, and how I later over time slowly was able to change a lot of it.  I hope if any of this sounds familiar to you, that you too will find whatever it is you need and stand tall in your mountain.

*  *  *
In yoga we talk about awareness, being present, and how this benefits our lives.  I’d like to introduce you to Tadasana, a pose to honor the mountain.  It is a pose we return to between standing postures that brings us back to creating a strong foundation.  It brings us back into balance with our breath and to feelings of awareness and confidence.

In Tadasana, we stand tall with all our beauty, strength, and power.  We establish a place to let go of what comes at us each day, a place to be grounded, and to connect with our breath while we remain alert and strong.  It’s a place to connect the mind and body as we open up to feel the aliveness within ourselves.  It is a place that reminds us we can always pause between things to find stillness and peace.

Like the mountain, we to have survived what’s come at us through the seasons of our life, and we are always changing.

And like the mountain, we will continue to stand tall with all our beauty, strength, and power … and let our observers,
Wonder, Watch, and Admire!
Namaste

My favorite version of mountain pose is a relaxed one standing up straight and tall with my feet hip width apart. Allow the shoulders to roll back slightly, and place one palm on my heart center and the other palm above my waist.  Be calm and relaxed so you can begin to release any tensions in the body and just notice each smooth, calm breath as it moves in and throughout your body. Soften your eyes, your face and jaw, and just feel, breathe and be present.  After a few minutes, start to feel your feet growing roots into the floor and your body lengthening up towards the ceiling. Feel your whole body connecting as your lower hand connects you to your personal powers of self in the third chakra, and the upper hand on the heart chakra connects you to love and compassion.
