Didn't find the word you needed - pick something else that you need today.

I know - some days the list can be very long ...

Confession time
Years ago at work I used to go for a walk at lunch and in my head I would get mad or say what I really wanted to say to whoever it was that day.

After I felt better, no arguments and I didn't have to carry that around with me day after day or take it home.

It's not all about the Taste

There's more to Spices than just Taste

Herbs to Cheer the heart and delight the senses.

Lovely are the hours spent in gardens of herbs and flowers.

Honestly I feel a little foolish writing this post.

I hope I'm not the only one that never knew.

We usually hear about how certain foods are good for this or that but I never knew about how spices are so nutritional and help us in so many ways.

I knew ginger helps. As kids we were given a class of ginger ale when we had an upset stomach and I have a stash of ginger from Trader Joe's to have when I need it.

The apple pie has to have cinnamon, the lasagna and spaghetti - garlic, basil and oregano and on and on but this was all just for taste - so I thought.

The past few years we've been hearing about the benefits of Turmeric, and I've seen it talked about on TV a few times.

But there's more...

There's lots of  Spices that provide us with many benefits to our health, and more products are now available as supplements, teas, tinctures, oils, capsules ...

This is huge.

So, what spices are in your kitchen?

What spices do you grow in the garden?

In our garden we normally have rosemary, parsley, chives, oregano and basil in the summer.

The oregano and chives I mostly have for the flowers and the bees, and I love to go out to get a piece of Rosemary for the Christmas turkey.

Last summer I was surprised to know a neighbor had a Bay Leaf tree so I got some fresh ones to dry and store.

I have lots of spices in the cupboard but again don't use them all or know what to do with them, and I never thought about them as nutritional.

There's the dessert spices, the turkey spices, the chili, pasta or steak spices and so on but what did I know about them?  I guess not much.

Did you know Sage helps our brain and so does Rosemary.  Interesting read about the history and benefits.

You may want to check out the benefits of your favorite spices or even add a few more into your pantry.

My takeaway is there is so much about the food we eat that we may not know.

We usually get told about the crap we're eating,
BUT
this is one of the good things to check out.

This has given me more to think about, learn and appreciate for what goes into the food I cook, eat and the health benefits.

I know NOW that it's not all just about the taste, and I feel better knowing there's lots of nutritional value as well so I may even start adding and using more.

If one spoon is good maybe two is even better.

Something to think about!

I think this post will be a Part 1 and I'll be working on Part 2 in the years ahead.

**As always, when you're checking out the Benefits also see what the side effects are and who should not use it. We never know how things will effect us because of allergies, intolerance's and other things we're experiencing -  just ask me about when I had lobster for the first time.

Take Care.

I think they'll be a few more fresh herbs in the Garden this year.

Want your Book

Want your Book

was the subject line on an email

Dona Anderson

It was a wonderful surprise to get this very interesting email.

Domenica was introduced to my book Simply, One Breath At a Time at a yoga retreat and wanted a copy.  After much searching she finally found a used copy and contacted me wanting another copy for her partner.

She said they loved the meditations and also seemed very happy the copy she got was signed.

I let her know I would for sure send another copy and also that I had a second book and a Blog she could check out.

Upon hearing back she let me know they wanted a copy of both books.  So when all the details were settled off went a package with the 2 signed books and I put a CD in as a gift for them.

You know how some things that are suppose to be easy often aren't.

The package went off heading east for the almost 4,200 Km into the US.

We waited for delivery, and waited, then I contacted the Post Office.

It arrived at some point in the next town and then got lost (??). I'm glad I added tracking on to the postage.

The Post Office said we'd have to wait longer to see if the package was found so after a bit I felt it unfair to keep Domenica waiting longer so I sent out a second package.

She was so kind through the long wait, and very delighted to finally get the second package and share it.

Unfortunately during the time we also got caught up with the post office thinking the second package she got was the lost one, but Domenica sorted that out and all ended well.

It was one of those times I was really Feeling Lucky and Grateful that Life sometimes gives us new Friends across the country even if our only contact has been though a few emails back and forth.

Later she sent me a Thank You card with lovely messages from her & friends who are enjoying the books as well.

So back at You!

Thanks so much for the lovely card,

Wishing all of You a lifetime full of Good Health & Happiness.

I finally admitted it ...

Finding our Own Way

And, along the way - have FUN

Here's some questions I asked of me ...

What are you good at?

What comes easy to you?

What can you still do when you don't feel well?

The stages of our lives change and the answers to the questions above would change many times.

I've been trying to connect back to some of the pieces to see how I ended up here.

Writing & sharing Wellness

In my past I never thought I had a creative bone in my body. I even remember at a job interview when asked about creativity I didn't really have a good answer.

Often we don't think about the things we know how and do normally, or practice and work on as being anything special. It was later on when looking back that I discovered I could have answered that creativity question better.

I guess I didn't really know what creativity was...

When I was little things like knitting and sewing were just part of home life, things we learned to do so we had clothes to wear. Cooking & Baking was so we had food to eat. Then there was the chores, dishes, ironing, yard work and house work.

Homemade stuff was cheaper and I remember the odd time we'd get store bought something and think it was the best thing ever.

I don't remember seeing hobbies people did just for enjoyment of the craft, someone's passion or just for fun.

Many decades ago I used to sew my dresses and pant outfits for work, have dinner parties and baked lots. I made jewelry, teddy bears, Christmas stockings and other stuff.  I even thought about writing a recipe book.

Funny how I still didn't see anything special in any of that.

Back to the Writing and sharing Wellness.

Yoga started it all.

My sore back, legs & hips, IBS, and surviving through my late 40's and all that came with it led me to Yoga.  A lunch time class at work was a lifesaver.

It didn't take long for me to notice that I started feeling better and different.

It was a couple of years later just before we moved here that I decided to put learning more YOGA on my to do list and also to try teacher training so I could help myself more.

The universe responded when I asked a lady at a shop in town if she knew any yoga teachers and she gave me a name.  At my first class I asked about teacher training and she said she was learning to be a teacher trainer.

So that was that.  A few years later I had my Certificate.

Along the way I thought I'd like to share yoga with others and cleared out a room.  I knew there were others like me who hurt all over, needed gentle yoga and I wanted to help.

That's when the wellness writing started - out of necessity to use in my class as I couldn't find a book to use.  A few years later and really enjoying the writing, I declared that I'm writing a Book for people to have in their homes or for wellness centers.

I haven't forgot about the questions I started this post with ... so back to them and they are answered in the NOW.

What are you good at?

Whether I'm good at it or not the computer lets me play with words, my camera lets me take pictures and over time it gets better.  It's fun for me and my way to help others and I love knowing that people from all over the world visit my blog.

What comes easy to you?

This type of writing for some reason came easy, and I like to collect words and thoughts that become triggers for me to think of something or use as fill ins.

I like editing and changing things through the writing process.  Sometimes I feel it is never finished as changes can always be made and that's OK, that's what gives me something to do tomorrow or the next day.

I'm not good at reading and to get through a story book is often hard and takes forever. This is comfortable because I can change anything to fit the day or time available.

Getting ideas for new posts so far has been OK.  I often feel like an artist creating new pictures - there's always a new view to explore.

What can you still do when you don't feel well?

This may seem like a weird question but for me has been huge.

My writing fills time in my good days and in those off days it has been my savior.  It takes my mind off of what is wrong, invites me to breathe and gives me something special and worthwhile to focus on.

I'm so lucky that I have this to do.

I can't be grumpy, sad or mad when I write so it always keeps me in a positive friendly place. It became my healing gift to myself.

What would be your Questions?
