Lives Got Changed

Making the World a Better Place

One Rose Wellness Cards

Dona Anderson

A few words Can make a Difference ...

One Rose Wellness Cards
At the festivals/shows I attend each year as a vendor I offer out a version of my One Rose Wellness cards to those passing by.

The idea of the cards actually started when I did a library reading years ago and I made a few cards with short messages to hand out to those who attended.

At the end of our time together I asked if anyone wanted to read the card they picked and many did. It was really a special time for all of us to absorb the nourishment each card had to offer.

That idea grew and became the set of 105 messages all taken from within the pages of my book Simply, One Breath At a Time.

The messages in the handouts are the same but I put them on colored paper and include my blog address so they can find me later if they want.  Some people love to dig in with eyes closed and some like to pick from the colors.

I love watching my visitors read the cards and immediately take a breath or a big exhale.  Some get a softening on their face, many say it was just what they needed or how perfect it fits with them.  A few even had a tear as it said something they really needed to hear.

And I love when a group are all
reading & sharing theirs with each other.

I get lots of people returning for another message each time they see me and they love telling me where they keep the ones they have, and others like to read the message and then place it back in the bowl for someone else to pick.

How many have I given out so far??

Over 10,400

Why the over  - for the many who recycled theirs to be offered again to someone else.

My Mom's old brass bowl gets to come along and has the special honor of being extended out to thousands full of wellness messages.  (She would never have imagined that but I think she is smiling)

When One Rose will do ...

I picked this message to share with you today.

Thank You for sharing this message to help others!

Messages from the pages of Simply, One Breath At a Time

Softly say to yourself,

In the stillness of this moment
all I have to do is be,
this moment is perfect
exactly as it is ...

A great message for our busy lives.

We often feel guilty taking a few minutes for ourselves to do nothing.

But you know a few minutes for self care is not doing nothing, and often it can seem quite difficult.

For a couple of minutes think only about focusing on each of your next few breaths to calm your body and mind.

You could also relax a bit more by softening your shoulders, and closing your eyes while you just listen to the sound of your beautiful Breath.

A few moments to let go and just be YOU ...  PERFECT.

Want to do it again?

Make Your Own Wellness Minutes

Gifts to Yourself

It gets better ...

I had one of those significant birthdays
 last November.

That's good as it means I'm still here!

Dona Anderson
A month earlier when we were visiting our Daughter I told her about what I was thinking for a Birthday Gift to myself and she loved it.

I imagined a new way to think about aging and supporting my own wellness for my later years.

A few simple changes in my thinking helped me and it is evolving even more.

In the earlier post I found the answer was to change the words I used.  A five year conflict seemed so simple and just dissolved. I think we do a lot of this especially around diets and exercise.

So before my Birthday I started thinking about it more and again its success depends on my thoughts and words.

Here's the idea.

Whatever age I'm at now and in the future I'd like to gift myself that number of minutes each day and call them Wellness Minutes  The great thing about this is the number increases each year by one.

Can't wait till I'm 90 and get to think about 1 1/2 hours a day just for me.

To get this idea going, I started thinking about what I considered to be Wellness Minutes. I know the list will change over the years and that's OK, it will be what it is.  All good.

Here's a few things I've come up with so far for my life now, and if I do 2 or 3 on the list in the day I'll think about one that seemed more special or one I really needed.

- morning dog walks and perhaps an added evening walk (they would love it)
- yoga class and a few extra restorative poses another time on my own
- playing with my guitar group or finding time to practice the other days
- a nap if I need it
- an extra long relaxing winter bath
- time with my amazing massage therapist
- watching a concert or wellness show I recorded
- sleeping in a bit if I didn't sleep well the night before
- writing for this blog and having it distract me when I don't feel well
- getting my hair cut (love the head massage part)
- listening to a relaxation CD
- more pedicures
- cuddling with the dogs
- eating my breakfast out on the back deck in the summer as the sun comes past the trees
- watching the birds in the yard, especially fun when they're having a bath in the pond or the Heron comes to visit
- spending time with family & friends
- sitting on the front porch or in the big chair in the living room on a sunny winter afternoon
- doing some online learning courses or listening to videos
- taking my camera out in the garden or park
- my evening out for my wellness circle
- a real treat - a SPA appointment
- someone else cooked supper and did the dishes
- stopping to get an ice cream cone
- lunch or supper out
- a walk at the beach
- I enjoyed the line dancing class last fall so signed up again - FUN!
- and more and more to come!

I wish I had started this sooner.

Real or Fake

Does it Matter

What little things bring you Joy?

Every time we visit our daughter this flower looks the same.

Every time I ask - is it fake.  No Mom, I told you before it isn't fake.

We don't go regularly for events or yearly holidays, we just go whenever maybe once or twice a year.  How long do these blooms last.

OK - Yes it is real

But I guess that doesn't even matter.

What matters is, it always gives me joy to see it.

Years ago there weren't many varieties of house plants, and where I grew up the African Violet was what most people had if they had any house plants.

I used to have several and it's probably been 40 years since I've had one.

So, that's it.
I'm going to get one!!

I like that pot too...
