It's time to Wake Up and Enjoy the Day

& the under the Stars Story

Dona Anderson

This post is kind of a check in before the Summer of Music starts next week.

Do you have plans for the summer?

Here are a few lines from the Meditation -

Wake Up and Enjoy the Day.

It starts with ...

The grass can wait
The dishes can wait
The laundry can wait

Listen to the sounds around you,
the birds, the passing breeze,
your breath.

The short excerpt above is from Meditation #45, page 112 in Moving Forward from the Heart.

It mentions summer activities but this can be anytime, or another season that we do activities for that season in.

It just wants to make you the priority for some of your to do lists with an I get to do list.

Ask yourself - What makes you happy and makes you smile.

What refreshes and nourishes your body & soul.

Later it ends with this last thought - If today is just for you, what will you do?

The summer goes by so fast that I always find it to be a more important time of year to notice and be present.

We need to rest and enjoy those warm days and nights - and remember to make a few lazy days and do nothing days to just breathe life in.

Even simple things like I love to watch the birds visit the yard, notice what changes from day to day in the garden, or just sit by myself for an hour or so and do nothing but nourish my soul.

Over the summer I hope you will exchange the Busy word for something like I'm having Fun or doing lots of reading on the porch, planning a BBQ, exploring the parks, going to the lake or on vacation, camping the the backyard, I'm growing lots of  fresh vegetables or ...

Story time - I have to tell you about one night years ago we got up around 2 am to watch the stars.  We had the blankets and pillows all ready to lay outside and hope for something special to happen.

The dogs came out with us and after cuddling awhile and wondering why we weren't in bed, they started to walk around and ended up they both had a big smelly poop close by.

Well that wasn't the special thing we had
hoped to happen that night.

After getting up and a few laughs we went back to bed.

Please Take Care of you,

and enjoy this years

Summer of Music starting next week.

What did you spend your Golf money on?

I tried to Golf a couple of times.

Unfortunately or Fortunately, I didn't have much success...

But in hind sight it was not to be my thing,
so I spent the money anyway - on other things.

I enjoy seeing what others are doing in their hobbies, outings, travels so it's always fun to find out new things or places to go.

When I started Yoga I got interested in music and joined a community choir for a few years, then I started to learn drumming, energy work, started writing and on and on.

Funny how you can't just have one drum, singing bowl, Himalayan salt lamp, basket of rocks and so on.

Now I'm playing guitar with a group of seniors and so far am lucky with only 2 guitars and 1 ukulele.

I'm not getting great at playing yet but what is great is that it's a place to go where others know your name and are glad to see you.

I guess that's what all our hobbies, outings and travels are about.

It's the getting out and spending time with others, having fun, not being lonely for a few hours, learning, helping others, being active or whatever else your activities bring you.

As we start the fall season of getting back to regular life after our summer break I hope we let our minds be our opener to possibilities rather than a limiter.

Life has so much happiness, wonder and gifts to offer us.

You'll be amazed at what you can find if you just

Go For It.

Update - from when I first started to write this, so Ok the guitar number went from 2 up to 3 - I guess we shouldn't visit the music shops anymore.

Is there something you're going to learn or be doing again soon?

Links below for sharing.

Thank You for your visit.

Love to hear what you do for Fun!!!!!!!

And what I don't understand is that they say Seniors don't spend money?

It looks scary and you might wonder what the H*ll.

How did this invention come about?

 Someone was a real Genius.

It looks like something out of a Pirates of the Caribbean movie but sounds wonderful.

Have Fun & Enjoy.

I love it that she continues to open more doors in life to keep on entertaining us.

She shows us that our journeys are about finding new opportunities and ways to explore and experience life.

Our confidence comes from practice and turning self doubt into old what ifs.

This video starts off another summer of sharing
wonderful music with you.

The Chant is a universal prayer, a chant for peace.

It's not rock music but give it a few moments to sink in and get your spirit moving and head nodding.

Listen to all the instruments and the children's voices.

Sing along and enjoy!

A wonderful Summer of Music starts today!

5 year old Problem - Solved

Change the Words!

Does this sound like Your Story?

Dona Anderson
It’s funny how things sometimes go round and never seem to get resolved.

I recently found the beginning thoughts about this story that I had started about five years ago and never finished.

The reason it never got finished is because at the time I didn’t know the answer to what I was trying to figure out.

I’m sure many of you thought like I did that our later years would be full of being happy, hobbies, relaxing, travel, family, friends and working on the fun to do list.

But when we got here we weren’t sure of what we even really liked or wanted to do because we never had time to find out, try new things, and so many things have changed this last twenty years.

I had started with a list of 3 headings:
What I have to do
What I want to do
What I get to do

This got confusing and I didn’t get very far because it still didn’t help me find what I really wanted nor did it give me any direction.

Before a hermit - still a hermit

Before not overly energetic - still not overly energetic

Here's an Example: I have to exercise, but I don’t like it much, except for yoga.  I used to walk several miles a day throughout the year, now it’s much shorter and depends on the weather and this or that.

I liked my exercise bike, but it now only gets an occasional visit when dusting.

So how do I check this one – Exercise

I have to do it - yes, only because I know I have to so I can keep moving

I want to do it - well no, not really but I'll say yes, see above

I get to do it - yes, only because I don’t have any real excuses, I am able and have time

Not fair, it checks yes in all 3 boxes!

I used to live by a weekly routine that scheduled my days.

Now I’m still trying to figure out what I want to do, and what will fill my mind, body, and spirit when I look back over this last 20 or so years of my life.

So here I am - five years later

Older and Wiser - Older that's for sure.

Anyway now I have decided to change the words from the old story to “I choose” and I came up with a few statements.

It will be forgiving, flexible, and changeable when I need it to be while still giving me some direction.

I choose a few different physical activities each week that are appropriate for how my body feels and what it needs.

I choose to be mindful of what I eat and select lots of nutritious healthy foods.

I choose to have quiet time for myself and also time to get out and enjoy nature.

I choose entertainment that is positive and healthy for me, my body and my emotions.

I choose to surround myself with people that love, support and inspire me, and I them.

I choose to keep learning, creating new dreams and goals for my future because I want to and I get to.

And, I know that my life will be as exciting,  wonderful,
and as full as only I can choose it to be!

Are there words in your life that you need to change?

A wonderful quote from Dr Wayne Dyer says ...

"When you change the way
you look at things,
the things you look
at change"

My Breath

 Whisper to yourself,

I let my breath touch the tip of my nose,
and the tips of each one of my toes.

I let my breath touch the tips of my fingers
and in the spaces between, it lingers.

I let my breath touch the back of my ears,
and it feels the softness of my tears.

I let my breath touch the back of my knees,
and all the organs inside me that are under a bit of a squeeze.

I let my breath touch the bottom of my chin,
and all the hidden places on my skin.

I let my breath touch my soft belly parts,
and especially the soft spots in my heart.

I let my breath touch all those places
inside me that smile,
and it will change
those places that don’t in awhile!
