Remembering Rumi

February is -

 Heart and Love Month

and it continues with Rumi

Dona Anderson

My search for Love
took me back to Rumi,
13th century poet.

Celebrating Rumi, Last Class

Several years ago I had a great time being introduced to so many wonderful poems by Rumi, and listening to them being read aloud by the different voices of the class.

I enjoyed some of the poems just as they were on the surface, while others beckoned me to look further and deeper.

There can be many layers of interpretation as numerous thoughts and feelings arise.

The more read the more experienced.

Even as a beginner to these poems, some left me thinking about things, people and experiences in my own life, and some offered a glimpse of change in the way I look at things.

The last class was especially memorable.

We got to take turns sharing one of our favourite poems with the class, and then something wonderful happened.

One of the ladies brought to share the poem below.

She also brought her classical guitar and had arranged music so she could play and sing the poem for us.

For me, who had just started learning guitar, it was the best way to end this class, and let me know I was where I was supposed to be.

For me that day, it compared to a big bowl of the best fresh garden strawberries of my dreams on delicious smooth ice cream … in that moment - everything else melted away.

I sat, loved it all, and wanted more!

You & I - by Rumi

“A moment of happiness,
You and I sitting on the veranda,
Apparently two, but one in soul, you and I.

We feel the flowing water of life here,
You and I, with the garden’s beauty
And the birds singing.
The stars will be watching us,
And we will show them
What it is to be a thin crescent moon.

You and I unselfed, will be together,
Indifferent to idle speculation, you and I.

The parrots of heaven will be cracking sugar
As we laugh together, you and I.
In one form upon this earth,
And in another form in a timeless sweet land.”
~ Rumi ~

Have you ever taken a course not knowing what to expect and loved it.

Sometimes I think adult learning is the most fun.

Ann - Thank You very much for creating this class which started the group on our exciting search for anything Rumi.

I still love to go on You Tube and listen to poems read aloud.

💚

As always, thank you for sharing
these posts with others around the world.
Together we're spreading Wellness,
new ideas, self care, gratitude
and much more.

Here's a song
about long lasting love.

Moving Forward from the Heart -
Meditation #70

MY
breath

"Whisper to yourself,

I let my breath touch
the tip of my nose, and the tips of each one of my toes.

I let my breath touch the tips of my fingers
and in the spaces between, it lingers.

I let my breath touch the back of my ears,
and it feels the softness of my tears.

I let my breath touch the back of my knees,
and all the organs inside me that are under a bit
of a squeeze.

I let my breath touch the bottom of my chin,
and all the hidden places on my skin.

I let my breath touch my soft belly parts,
and especially the soft spots in my heart.

I let my breath touch all those places
inside me that smile,
and it will change
those places that don't in awhile."

Dona Anderson - message from
Simply, One Breath at a Time

I'm sharing with you today an excerpt from my book Moving Forward from the Heart.

It's about how in our busy lives we sometimes lose or forget about those small things, the little things that make our hearts sing and feeds our Soul.

If you're a regular visitor to this blog you will have noticed that Yoga, the poses and especially the Guided Relaxation time got me back in touch with so much of Life.

It created the pause that let the little things back into my life that were missing after years of rushing and managing the bigger things.

10 Ways to Change Lost to Found

A moment for reflection:

I wrote the following poem, Lost and Found, shortly after I finished my first book, Simply, One Breath At a Time.

I needed to write something about what the 65 guided relaxations/meditations meant to me - what I saw, thought, felt, experienced, and most of all what I found in its pages.

After reading each of the relaxations in the book many times through its creation and in using it since, I am still very grateful for all the things they continue to bring to my life.

I continue to hear whispers for change, growth and I am reminded about the wonders of life that are found in the breath, nature, treasures, gratitude, stillness and so much more.

I wanted to share this with you and I am positive this book, Moving Forward from the Heart, will also encourage us to open our minds, body, hearts and breath up even further to the many wonderful gifts that are ours to explore, enjoy and share each day.

Lost and Found

Lost myself –
Found out what’s important and brings me joy

Lost track of time –
Found the now in the present moment

Lost imagination –
Found treasures, gifts, paradise, nature

Lost comfort –
Found softness from letting go, and smiling

Lost paying attention –
Found myself choosing to be aware

Lost appreciation –
Found feelings of fullness from gratitude

Lost awareness –
Found time to see, hear, feel, and connect

Lost my breath –
Found a nourishing breath flowing within me

Lost a quiet mind –
Found that I can slow down thoughts and rest

Lost peace –
Found a safe place for me to open up my heart.

Rumi Poem

Sharing a touching Rumi Poem

Just in time for Father's Day
coming up on Sunday.

Dona Anderson

Dona Anderson

I read this Rumi poem several years ago and I immediately liked it and thought about Father's Day.

It took me awhile to find in the my book again,
but I did it.

It's from The Essential Rumi by Coleman Barks, bottom of page 146.

Humble living does not diminish.

It fills.

Going back to a simpler self gives wisdom.

When a man makes up a story for his child,

he becomes a father and a child,

together, listening.

A Place for Messages

Rumi poem

Dona Anderson

I thought I'd share this poem with you today.

You suppose you are the trouble

But you are the cure

You suppose that you are the lock on the door

But you are the key that opens it

It's too bad that you want to be someone else

You don't see your own face, your own beauty

Yet, no face is more beautiful than yours

~ Rumi

Thanks Rumi.

This poem starts the meditation A Place for Messages in my book, Moving Forward from the Heart.

3 Things to Help Your Heart

Dona Anderson

Invest in Your Health

 Dona Anderson

Heart Healthy

Heart Disease is the a killer for both males and females!

I remember when I was young we worried about our Grandfather. He was in his 80's and on Heart Medication and my parents put a bell in their bedroom to ring for an emergency. That first time the bell rang, it was for our Grandmother, 12 years younger and no previous signs of problems.

Has something similar happened to You?

Unfortunately, these types of stories are familiar. We worry about the known problems and then something unexpected happens to another family member or caregiver.

During the month of February 2015, I did eight posts for Heart Awareness. A mix of  gentle movements, meditations,  music and a couple of poems to sink into and absorb.

Below I'm sharing the links with you to the 3 most viewed of the 8.

I didn't promote them all equally so your favorite may be one of the other 5.

You'll find all of them in the Blog Archive for February 2015.
